Blair is in line for Mideast Peace Role... Really?!

Am I the only one that feels like we're living in some bad Saturday Night Live political sketch that has just run on WAY too long, and wasn't ever really that funny to begin with.

It started with a weak premise: Iraq has weapons of Mass Destruction.

It ran out of steam fast: No weapons of Mass Desctruction were found.

It was declared a victory: Bush announced that we won...

4 years later... thousands of deaths later... millions of dollars later...

It's still not over. Rumsfeld has resigned, Powell has disappeared and next week Blair steps down.

In another move of swift brilliance (or maybe he just doesn't want to the one left holding the pin to the Iraqi hand grenade) George W. Bush is eyeing Tony Blair for the position of a Mideast Peace Envoy.

Yeah I don't know what that is either - but the fact that the word 'peace' is part of the title just adds insult to injury.

According to Yahoo News:
"That person would work to help the Palestinians strengthen their political and economic systems and institutions in preparation for an eventual independent Palestinian state, McCormack said."

Which when translated from political spin means:
"That person will ensure the death of every Palestinian that disagrees with the US mideast agenda."

Well I was happy that Blair would soon be out of the picture - so let's hope this doesn't come to fruition and they just find some other patsy to be their "Peace Envoy". Seems that the US is going to do whatever it wants in the Mideast without immediate consequence.

Daily Show: Who’s to Blame for VATech Massacre?

The Blame Game starts up with every school shooting. It MUST have been someone's fault. That's what we are conditioned to believe. It can't be someone crying out for help and snapping because no one listened. It can't be that - that would humanize the shooter or shooters and what kind of story would that make?

"Poor, abused kid shoots up his school because he was too depressed and no one seemed to care. Film at 11pm."

The media demonizes these people. But they are just people and something happened to them that caused them to act out in this fashion. Maybe they were unstable, maybe their classmates picked on them too much, maybe their parent's abused them - there could be any number of reasons but I know that it wasn't a video game or a Marilyn Manson song.

Some people just can't get help or don't know what to ask for and just float further away into self imposed social exile. People aren't very friendy to social outcasts and this will push them further. Add in the instability and the feeling of nothing else to lose and it's a powder keg.

We'll keep seeing it happen, I'm sure while those in power just regurgitate the same blame game over and over.

It's sad.

Global warming or not, the truth is we are polluting the crap out of this planet and our cities are overcrowded... things need to change.

The World's Cleanest Cities

I flip flop between New York and Los Angeles and neither made this list. I'm not surprised by that but I am surprised that Pittsburgh made it to #10 (along with 7 others). A city that was once known for it's steel production has turned itself around and is now in the top 10. Go Pittsburgh.

I'd like to see New York get on this list. With Bloomberg's new 'green' plan and a huge interest in reversing this coutry's ridiculous pollutive and wasteful ways, New York should be the leader of this Brave Green World.

Let's face it, our president won't do anything to help turn this around and it's up to the individual states and cities to pick up the slack and clean up.

Disney Does Gay Marriage Right

Disney has opened up it's Fairy Tale Wedding program to allow gays and lesbians the right to exchange vows in their parks. You can even have Mickey and Minnie (complete with formal wear) as guests to the wedding! Does this mean Mickey and Minnie support the gays?!

"We believe this change is consistent with Disney's long-standing policy of welcoming every guest in an inclusive environment," Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said Friday. "We want everyone who comes to celebrate a special occasion at Disney to feel welcome and respected." (from CNN)

Leave it to Disney to stand up and say "Hey, the world won't end if we let gays and lesbians get married." Thank you Disney! Someone, somewhere has some common sense.

I've NEVER understood what the Anti-Gay marriage lot was on about. What harm is it doing to anyone to let people get married regardless of their sexual preference? People often say it ruins the sanctity of marriage... well doesn't reality TV do that already with shows like "Who wants to marry my uncle's Dad?" or whatever nonsense they are airing now.

I was scared, I was petrified... I thought we had taken 50 steps backwards in regards to human evolution and bigotry. I was sure we'd be burning gays at the stakes again with the way religious people carry on about them... but now with all the press Disney will get for this, it will just make the outcries of the religious look even more ridiculous.

Wake up!

Time to open your minds people - we're all human and we all 'love' and if GOD had wanted us to be any other way he would have made us that way. I can't imagine a God that would wants us to ban a celebration of love!

I'm talking to you Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, Utah and Oregon! We're not in the dark ages any longer. The citizens of these states had passed constitutional admendments in 2004, 'codifying marriage as an exclusively heterosexual institution.' Two more states were added to that list in 2005 and eight in 2006.(source)

States that allow gay marriage:

Arizona became the first and only state so far to reject a ballot initiative to ban same-sex marriage. Go Arizona!

Massachusettes was the first and only state to allow marriage licenses to same-sex couples - but they also block out of state couples from marrying there. Opponents of gay marriage plan to fight this in 2008.

For a period of time in 2004, marriage licenses were issued to same-sex couples in violation of state law in San Francisco, Sandoval County, N.M., New Paltz, N.Y., and Multnomah County, Ore. Courts intervened and invalidated these marriages. (source)

Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey all allow for civil unions between same sex couples.

I believe that New Jersey Civil Unions are recognized in New York - but I'm not sure about that.

California allows couples to register as domestic partners.

Hawaii and Maine have similar registries that allows couples to claim marriage like benefits.

Rhode Island decided in 2007 that they will recognize valid Massachusettes same-sex marriages.

Earth Day Celebration and Living with Awareness

Im my opinion, every day should be earth day. We're at the point with the enviornment where this need for action has gone beyond the hippie era. If we don't start acting now, each one of us we're going to pay for it and leave our children with a much different place to live.

It's simple.

Everyday, you breathe the air, see the sky, feel the wind, smell the earth. Be conscious of this. Be aware of the privledge we have to be alive. I believe in life on other planets, but it tells you something when astronomers have been searching the galaxy for years and found no other planet or beings like us. We're rare, at least in our corner of the universe and we need to protect the things that allow us to live.

Live with awareness.

Do you really need that plastic bag at the store or could you carry what you are buying in some other way?

Do you absolutely need to drive to work alone, or can you arrange a car pool?

Does your apartment building recycle? Should you take it upon yourself to find a way to recycle your plastic and paper goods?

Do all the lights in the house need to be on? Does the air conditioner need to run ALL day or night?

Most IMPORTANTLY:

Abandon the "I'm just one person, what difference can I make?" attitude. You make all the difference in the world.

Change starts with each one of us.

Be positive. Be Aware. Be Thankful for life.

Iran Steals Home: Where's your 'bad guy' now?

I didn't see this coming. The 15 British soldiers captured by Iran were set free this week without escalation of the situation.

Brilliant move on Iran's part, honestly. How can that country be as bad as Blair and Bush make it out to be when they were willing to let hostages go free without any issue.

In one move, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and co. deflated American and British power and bought themselves TONS of positive press.

AP News starts their article: "Iran's abrupt release of 15 British sailors and marines is raising hopes the country might compromise on other disputes, most notably its nuclear program. "

But I think Iran did this so they CAN continue their nuclear program. Basically Iran is saying "Hey, we're nice people. Let us have bombs."

Maybe they are nice people. They want to be part of the 'Axis of Niceness' and play with all the other children in the Nuclear playground.

I say let 'em have the nuclear power... how can we (American's) tell others' what not to do. We're the only country that's ever USED the bomb on another country. Where's the adult to smack our hands when we make weapons? Enhance our weapons? Test our weapons?

If a nuclear bomb goes off in our face... well maybe then we'll learn that "Hey, these are bad!" and stop making them.

Wishful thinking I know.

Faith No More: We Care a Lot

This song inspired the title of this blog...

I've wanted to do something, anything to feel like I was helping even just a little. I constantly get the urge to run off and join the peace corps. Fear stops me I guess... but I really feel that things are headed downhill and if we don't all start to wake up and change the way we live - nothing is going to get better anytime soon.

Walking around Manhattan, breathing car exhaust, stuffing myself into subway cars... my iPod becomes the wall that helps me not freak out about how miserable everyone seems and how bad the pee smell is.

New Yorkers know this smell well I'm sure - it's all over the place. We all ignore it to the best of our ability... but this is the problem and it's on a global scale. Those in power are taking a piss, destroying our environments and killing hundreds of thousands a people every month.... and we ignore that smell and try to live day to day.

Why do we let them get away with this? How can we change it?

It has to start here... with each of us and our individual microcosm universes. The more healing and love we share and experience in our own space, the more I believe that will permeate out into the rest of the world. Starting small... baby steps. Heal ourselves and through that heal those around us...

So my first thought, listening to Faith No More was to start a website since that's what I do for a living...

Get Your Gun: War with Iran

Seems like there is no way out of conflict with Iran. I think it's obvious the powers that be WANT this conflict. Ever since Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech it has only been a matter of time.

Recently, in Bush's State of the Union address he seemed to be pushing this war rhetoric further stating...

"Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom."

Seems that all we need to condemn a country to invasion is Bush publically stating their support of terror and their persuit of weapons. Now I know there's alot more to the whole thing than Bush on TV spouting "Iran is bad." but that's really all most American's see and these guys in power KNOW that.

When Mary and Jim see Bush on TV talking about how naughty Iran is being, chances are they believe it without question and support for war goes up a percentage point. Forget the fact that there is little evidence other than what we see on CNN to back up the President's motives and after all his buddys have stepped down, he's going this one alone.

How can he possibly convince Americans to go in for more war?

Enter Tony Blair and his 'sacrificed' Marines....

Call me crazy but I just see this as somebody's plan to kickstart conflict with Iran. How could these sailor's NOT know they were in Iranian waters. It's not like this type of incident hasn't happened before back in 2004...

From CNN: "In 2004, Iran stopped three British boats and seized eight sailors and six marines. "

Those sailors were eventually released when Iran determined that they had entered their waters mistakenly... will that happen this time?

Iran is on the defensive and it has every right to be with Bush on his Middle East domination tour so I doubt we'll see such an easy resolution to this.

I don't see what we can do about this other than sit and watch. Bush has threatened to override Congress and pretty much do whatever he wants and Tony Blair I'm sure is no different. They'll find a way to get the war they want... how do you think it will happen?

Discovery Channel: Planet Earth Series Debuts

Last night, March 25th at 8pm Discovery Channel aired the first three episodes of it's new Planet Earth documentary series. The 11 episode series, narrated by Sigourney Weaver offers an unparralled view of our planet.

Here's a synopsis from Discovery's Planet-Earth.com:

"More than five years in the making, PLANET EARTH redefines blue-chip natural history filmmaking and continues the Discovery Channel mission to provide the highest quality programming in the world. The 11-part series will amaze viewers with never-before-seen animal behaviors, startling views of locations captured by cameras for the first time, and unprecedented high-definition production techniques. Award-winning actress and conservationist Sigourney Weaver is the series' narrator. "

Beautifully shot and nicely paced, I sat through all three hours effectively spellbound at the sights, some of which had never before been caught on camera.

I was worried that the commercials were making this series out to be more exciting than it possibly could be but I was wrong - I highly recommend checking it out.

Discovery's Planet-Earth.com website offers more of a look into the series, how it was made and most importantly - what to do to help save our planet and reverse the decades of damage we've done.

When you watch this series, one can't help but think about Global Warming. Climate changes will forever alter our earth and the beautiful scenes and creatures displayed in this documentary series might not be around in the next 20- 50 years.

There's no way to change the earth all at once but I've found some great links and info regarding little things each of us can do to make a difference.

CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS 5 ARE USED AS SEX SLAVES.

AMERICANS account for an estimated 25% of child sex tourists worldwide.

This is unreal to me. I can't imagine someone travelling to a country to pay to have sex with a child... as young as 5 years old.

I had no idea as much as 25% of this traffic was coming from America.

In my opinion, if you are having sex with a child - forget prision. They should shoot you on the spot.

Think this only happens in Thailand or Malaysia? It happens in the US too.

What can you do?
